Florence, a city with around half a million inhabitants, is situated on the banks of the Arno river, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic, almost in the center of the Italian peninsula. It is a lively city thanks to its industrial and craft activities, commercial and cultural exchanges, artistic and scientific life. Florence is connected to the main national railway lines and, thus, to all the principal Italian and European cities. Florence's "A. Vespucci" airport is just 5 Km. away from the old city center: both national and international airlines fly from this airport. The "Autostrada del Sole" highway rapidly connects Florence with Bologna and Milan, in the north; and with Rome and Naples, in the south; the "Autostrada del Mare" highway connects Florence with Prato, Pistoia, Montecatini, Lucca, Pisa, and other cities along the Tyrrhenian coast. The "Superstrada" freeway connects Florence with Siena.
